Abby, Brodie, and Penny met at Scope’s Shannon Park site during therapy sessions they attended together. Abby and Brodie were two years old. Penny joined them a few years later when they were all around four.

They are now the proud authors of the book Sarcastic Blue Diarrhoea and took time out of their busy schedules to give CIRCus this exclusive interview.

Congratulations on winning the 2017 Telescope group writing award!

How did it feel to win?

Abby: “I felt excited and it was great.”
Brodie: “I feel smart.”
Penny: “I love it”

How do you write together? Do you take turns or talk about what you all want to happen next in the story?

“Through our Speech Group we did an activity of writing a story. First we each came up with a character. Then everybody yelled out ideas of what they wanted to happen. After this we went back to figure out the details.”

Abby: “Sometimes we push in”
Brodie: “We chatted to figure out when things happen and to get more descriptive. We were each in charge of our own character.”

What is your favourite thing about writing together?

Abby: “I like being with the other girls, someone always says something funny.”
Penny: “It’s the best.”

Can you please tell our readers a little bit about your book Sarcastic Blue Diarrhoea?

‘It is a beautiful tale about how three characters: a gnome, a florist, and a happy monster meet and become friends.’

Abby: “It is excellent!”
Brodie: “It is great!”
Penny: “It is awesome!”

What inspired you to write this book?

Abby: “It all just happened.”
Brodie: “It was an activity in our group.”
Penny: “My pets inspired me to write the book.”

If people want to become authors like you, what should they do?

Abby: “Practice a lot on your device, have a patient assistant, and be creative.”
Brodie: “You should get the right equipment. It could be a pen and paper or a communication device.”
Penny: “You need to be creative and have a good imagination.”
