People with disability have poorer health, higher mortality rates and lower life expectancy than the general population. Adults with disability are also more likely to have chronic health conditions. Managing the range of health needs in people with disability can present challenges for disability service providers, particularly in the context of Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes.
This research explored the health status of clients in Scope’s SIL homes. It also explored the impact of a model of support for staff, and staff views on supporting clients with complex health care needs living in SIL homes. The research findings aim to inform Scope and the disability sector about how to best support clients with complex health care needs.
