Barry’s Movember Journey
Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men’s health, and this Movember 63-year-old Scope customer Barry Seaton is joining in on the action.
Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
Living with four men and having a close relationship with his two brothers, men’s health is an important subject to Barry.
Barry’s been a customer of Scope since 1980 and was 22 years old when he first became involved. He currently lives in one of our Supported Independent Living residences and attends Scope’s Day and Lifestyle Options.
SIL Coordinator Carly Noy, has known Barry for about 4 years now and worked with him as a Disability Support Worker at his home prior to coordinating.
“I hadn’t heard of the Movember Charity until recently. Knowing that I love growing a good mo’, Carly told me all about Movember and thought I’d be great at it. I have always had a huge interest in raising money and decided to give it a go!” Barry says.
Scope staff have been a great support for Barry (Baz). They have been constantly reminding him of the great job he is doing, contributing to donations, and sharing his ‘Mo Space’ link to family and friends.
“It has been really nice for Barry to have brought such a positive atmosphere to the home and openly chat about the cause.” Carly says.
After November, Barry intends to dye his mo’ a bright colour in hope that it starts more conversations….and for a laugh!
Let’s help Barry achieve his goal of $1200. Together we can make a difference. Support Barry today.
