Does Customised Employment sound like the right fit for you or someone you care for?

The first step to starting your journey with Scope’s Scouts and a personalised Customised Employment pathway is making sure you have the right funding.

There are two options available to pay for Scope’s Customised Employment service-. People transitioning out of school, up until the age of 22 may qualify for School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) funding in their NDIS plan. Other people who have identified employment as a goal can apply for NDIS funding under Capacity Building, “Finding and Keeping a Job”.

Let’s take a closer look at each option. And remember, if you or your loved one doesn’t have the right funding in your plan right now, we can help you prepare the right information for a plan review.

Funding for school leavers via SLES

SLES exists to help young people to reach their employment goals by building confidence, independence, and job skills. It’s designed for Year 12 school leavers with significant disability, to support their transition from school to employment.

Because SLES is all about providing personalised, one-on-one support to school leavers, Customised Employment is the perfect fit. It’s a great idea to get started while still at school, if possible, so you can put all the right supports in place to ensure as smooth a transition as possible.

SLES funding typically begins in the final year of school, although it is available up to the age of 22. It’s usually added to your NDIS plan during a plan review, when you talk about what you want to do after school finishes. Your school reports and career goals will also be taken into account to help decide whether you’re likely to benefit from SLES.

Still at school but haven’t accessed NDIS funding? You can check your eligibility here, and rest assured that SLES can be included in your plan if you are accessing NDIS funding for the first time.

If you are unsure about your eligibility and are interested in transitioning from school into open employment, get in touch with the friendly team at Scope to discuss your options.

Funding for mature aged job seekers

Customised Employment doesn’t have an age limit. It’s designed to be as inclusive as possible – any person with disability, at any age, can access the service if they want to work, have employment goals in their NDIS plan, and have funding in their plan under Capacity Building, “Finding and Keeping a Job”.

Some job seekers may already be registered with Disability Employment Services (DES), which has a different funding model and offers a different pathway to employment. If this option has not worked for you, we can work with you to access Customised Employment. Our one-on-one, personalised support is designed to help you prepare for and keep a job into the long term.

If you don’t have the right level of NDIS funding, we suggest you request an NDIS plan review. It may be possible for you to use your current funding to begin Customised Employment, then we can support you in demonstrating and advocating the importance of this evidence-based approach, to gain additional NDIS funding to continue with your employment journey.

We can help by providing a letter of support and a quote for our Customised Employment services in time for your next NDIS plan review.
