International Women’s Day 2019

The 8th March is International Women’s Day – a global day for unity, action and reflection. It’s a day to celebrate the achievements of women around the world and an opportunity to bring awareness to the call for gender equality.

Scope is an organisation that’s led by women. We benefit from having strong female leaders. Our CEO Dr Jenny Fitzgerald is supported by an executive that’s half women and Scope’s Board possesses good gender diversity with 40 per cent female directors. Women make up around three quarters of Scope’s total workforce.

Today we encourage our customers, colleagues, members and friends to join with Scope in celebrating women and their achievements on this important human rights day.

This year’s theme is #balanceforbetter – a balanced world is a better world. But how can you help forge a more gender-balanced world? The International Women’s Day website keeps it simple with the following advice:

  • Celebrate women’s achievement.
  • Raise awareness against bias.
  • Take action for equality.

International Women’s Day is not just for women. Activist Gloria Steinem once said “the story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.” So make International Women’s Day your day and do what you can to make a positive difference for women.
