Scope to elevate the voice of people with disability in 2020 Melbourne Fringe Festival
Scope will support creative writers to showcase their skills during its annual Telescope ‘In the Voice of the Writer’ event, as a part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
The event will take place online, on Friday 27 November 2020 from 6pm – 8pm.
Its aim is to empower a diverse group of people with disability, to share their perspectives and showcase their works through voice, recordings and other mediums.
“I write to process, to inform, to advocate and to vent. It’s an amazing way to process my feelings and my world” shared Telescope artist Pavlina McMaster.
“This wonderful opportunity to share my writing and experiences with family, friends and the wider community promotes inclusion and diversity. These are vital to the fabric of our society” she added.
During the event, writers will share their stories from a wide range of genres including: True Crime, Fan Fiction, Memoir, Autobiography and Poetry via pre-recordings hosted on the Melbourne Fringe Festival’s digital platform.
The event will be captioned and include Auslan interpreting.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for writers with a lived experience of disability to have a platform to share their stories and express themselves creatively” shared Danni Hall Community Inclusion Manager, Scope.
“Representation in the arts is incredibly important and the event will promote accessible and inclusive communication” she added.
