Video: A message from Professor Sanchia Aranda AM, the Chair of Scope’s Board of Directors.

Scope has announced the appointment of Professor Sanchia Aranda AM as Chair of the organisation’s Board of Directors.

Professor Aranda  is the inaugural Chair of City Cancer Challenge Foundation and Director of the International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting, the former CEO of Cancer Council Australia and the Past President for Union for International Cancer Control, Geneva and International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC).

She is regarded as one of the world’s pre-eminent experts in cancer control with 40 years’ experience in the healthcare as a clinician, researcher, educator and health-system administrator. A key focus of her work is on reducing health and social inequalities. Professor Aranda also has relevant experience working with adults and children with disability, within the healthcare sector.

Professor Aranda takes on the mantle from David Lloyd Jones, who also completes his tenure on Scope’s Board after 10 years of service.

Professor Aranda has welcomed her appointment as Chair of the Board of Directors.

“I’m looking forward to leading a highly skilled and committed Board and leadership team. It’s exciting to join Scope at this important time, as the organisation embarks on its growth agenda to establish our presence as a leading national provider of disability support services,” said Professor Aranda.

Scope’s CEO Dr Jennifer Fitzgerald congratulated Professor Aranda on her appointment and also commended the contribution by David Lloyd Jones.

“We’re delighted to have someone of Professor Aranda’s calibre and passion to lead our Board. She brings a huge wealth of knowledge and experience in management from an illustrious career in healthcare and cancer control.

“I would like to thank our outgoing Chair David for his contribution and commitment to Scope and our mission over the past 10 years. As Deputy Chair and Chair for six of those years, he’s led Scope throughout a period of immense change and growth. More recently I have personally appreciated his leadership and support during the challenges of COVID-19.”

Scope also congratulates Director Gary Brinkworth on his appointment as Deputy Chair. He takes over from Marcell Judkins who remains a Director and Chair of the Business Development Committee.

Gary joined the Board in 2018 and has Chaired the Investments Committee since 2019.  Gary has an extensive career in Retail, Food Service, Facilities Management, Manufacturing, Distribution and Financial Services businesses and is currently Chief Executive Officer of Herron Todd White.
