Appointment of Hon. Jill Hennessy to Board of Scope
Scope is delighted to announce the appointment of the Hon Jill Hennessy to Scope’s Board of Directors.

Everyone loves to bop away to their favourite tunes and
clients attending one of Scope’s newest Social Connections programs are no
exception. Held quarterly, Phillip Island’s ‘Surf the Sound’ inclusive silent
disco is fast becoming a favourite of many.
With the support of a Quick Response Grant from the Bass Coast Shire Council, Scope recently purchased enough headphones and equipment for 20 people with disability to participate in a silent disco at any one time.
The program commenced in November 2024 and has been an outstanding success. There are no heavy speaker systems in the event space and the sound streams through everyone’s headphones minimising impact on others in the area and enabling people to listen to music of their own choice.
Welcoming adults 18+ with disability, including the neurodivergent community, the silent disco uses music as the motivator for emotional and social connection, and provides a much-needed social activity for young adults to meet on a regular basis.
“Silent discos are great for people with disability who are sensitive to noise, or do not cope well with large crowds,” says Natalie Aedy, Coordinator of the Bass Coast Social Connections team that hosts the silent disco, “We are finding that it has been a wonderful way for people to participate in social events, connect with each other and dance to the music they enjoy.”
Scope is very appreciative of the support provided by the Bass Coast Shire Council and looks forward to offering inclusive Silent Discos from other locations in the area.
