We offer support to help with challenging behaviours or behaviours of concern.

Scope’s Therapy for Adults services supports you through all the life stages. The Scope team of therapists includes psychologists, speech pathologists and occupational therapists. Your team of therapists will spend lots of time with you. We want to understand both the medical diagnosis as well as get to know you. This will help us work with you to set goals and create a plan to reach them.

The plan to reach your goals is designed just for you. Our therapists enjoy supporting you overcome challenges and celebrate your wins.

Physiotherapy

Our physios are here to help you reach your physical goals. You’ll work through challenging yet enjoyable activities. These will help you build strength and increase your range of movement. Other activities will help you practice balance and coordination. Whether your goals are to be more independent, move a little bit more or to be able to hold your communication tools, we are here to help you achieve that. Let’s come up with a program that works for you.

Our physios can help you:

  • Improve balance, coordination, strength and flexibility.
  • Choose mobility equipment, such as a wheelchair, walker or standing frame.
  • Design exercises for posture and movement control.

Occupational Therapy

Your occupational therapist (OT) will help you manage your everyday activities. They’ll help you feel more independent and improve your concentration. You’ll work together doing fun activities that will help you control your movements and understand your senses. Your OT will also help you access specialist equipment. Your family and friends can even get involved. Tell them to join in the fun games and activities!

Your OT can help you:

  • Gain skills to be more independent at home, school or work.
  • Manage big changes in your life.
  • Be part of your community and participate in group activities.
  • Access specialist equipment and advice about home modifications.
  • Improve your focus and concentration.
  • Improve your health and well-being.

Speech Therapy

Speech pathologists can help you communicate. They will work with you on talking and using your voice. You’ll spend time with your speech therapist getting used to listening and understanding what others are saying. This is great practice for when you’re out socialising. They’ll also teach you other ways to communicate like using pictures and other communication aids.

Your speech therapist is also able to work with you on swallowing, eating and drinking.

Your speech therapist can help you:

  • Communicate with others.
  • Learn to communicate without talking.
  • Access communication aids and resources.
  • Talk, read and write.
  • Receive mealtime assistance.
  • Learn how to control your saliva.
  • Help plan your meals so that eating and drinking is safe and enjoyable

Psychology

There’s a lot happening and you may be feeling overwhelmed. Your psychologist can help you understand and manage these feelings. They will help you with depression and anxiety. They will also work with you on everyday challenges such as managing strong emotions, stress and how to deal with other people. They can even help you work up the motivation to go to your therapy sessions!

Psychologists can also help your family members and carers by providing information, resources and advice.

Positive Behaviour Support 

Positive behaviour support and therapy at Scope aims to reduce any use of restrictive interventions. Instead, you will work with a team of highly specialised therapists that can help you or your child manage challenging behaviours.

We have lots of services available. We will take time to understand you and come up with a plan that is just for you. Your plan will include assessments and skills training with a focus on reducing any use of restrictive interventions.
