Disability Royal Commission
The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (DRC or Royal Commission) was established in mid-2019 by the Commonwealth and State and Territory governments.
Scope welcomes the release of the final report for the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.
The release of the report is a defining moment for the human rights of people with disability in Australia.
As a leading organisation, Scope is committed to playing our part in shaping the future of disability services and supports.
We remain steadfast in our dedication to delivering high-quality, person-centred services.
Scope will review the recommendations in detail, and work in partnership with governments, the people we support and their families, and the sector more broadly to bring about change.
In doing so, we will continue to be led by the voices and experiences of people with disability.
Scope acknowledges the bravery and dedication of those who contributed over the last four years, and the decades of advocacy that led to it.
Many of stories and experiences raised today and throughout the Commission are distressing and painful. These accounts have been difficult to hear, but it is crucial that the challenges faced by people with disabilities are heard and brought to light so that change may occur.
The Royal Commission has shed light on the realities facing people with disability and identified areas for improvement and we acknowledge and thank them for their work.
We welcome opportunities for reform in the sector and remain dedicated to prioritising the wellbeing, rights, and inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of society.
