Today, Scope announced its endorsement for a constitutionally enshrined First Nations Voice to Parliament.

Scope, one of Australia’s largest disability service providers, outlined its commitment to educating the people it supports, their families, employees and the wider community about the importance of the Voice.

Kate MacRae, Scope’s Chief Executive Officer, said the Uluru Statement from the Heart reflects Scope’s values, and that the Voice would lead to better outcomes for First Nations people.

“We support the Uluru Statement from the Heart and believe in the importance of listening to and acknowledging the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People,” Kate said.

“The Uluru Statement from the Heart aligns strongly with our own purpose and vision of seeing people belong, thrive and live their dreams.

“As an organisation that strives for inclusion and equity, we are committed to sharing information and accessible resources to help our people better understand the Voice to Parliament.”

In demonstration of this support, Scope also recently joined the Allies for Uluru Coalition, a coalition of more than 180 community sector organisations championing the constitutional change for the rights of First Nations people.

The actions perpetrated against Lee-Anne were abhorrent

The past acts of assault towards Scope client Lee-Anne Mackey are distressing and unacceptable. Scope has apologised to the Mackey family for the gross mistreatment Lee-Anne has endured. We continue to engage Lee-Anne and her family and work with them to identify ways to improve her care.

Planning a merry and accessible Christmas

The silly season is upon us. Shops and community centres are adorned with tinsel, carols are playing, and people are out and about catching up with friends. It’s a busy time of year, and it can be complex and stressful for people with disabilities.
