Hear from our participants

Janet is a quiet lady who is enjoying her golden years and has been at Scope since she was 8 yrs old. She now attends Chelsea 3 days a week. She loves music and having people around her while drinking warm cups of black tea.

Janet has recently been introduced to an adapted musical percussion set. There are 5 switches, and each switch is connected to either a drum, tambourine, symbol, triangle or maraca. Janet has learnt that when pressing a switch, it makes some musical sounds. When she realised it was her, she was so excited and quickly learnt that all the switches make a different sound. With her increasing strength and mobility, she can alternate between switches. She is part of the weekly group music therapy session, and now she can be independent in the instruments she chooses.

This allows Janet to feel empowered and completely included in the activity, is seen and heard, and is a valued participant in the program. All these positive outcomes result in amazing self-esteem and emotional wellbeing.

Thank you so much Mel for all the work that has gone into prepping the timetable - it all looks great. You all do such marvellous work & Hannah is so happy @ Chelsea - all her activities organised by you are fabulous.

Thank you again Mel - Chelsea is such an integral & incredibly supportive part of Hannah's life & I'm grateful from the bottom of my heart for everyone's kindness, care & support. Cheers Mel,

Hi Mel I had a great meeting with Caz recently and I told her how much I appreciate the great work she's been doing with my son. The notes from the DSW who supported him today were great too - they showed that he was offered choices and his decisions were respected.

I like singing, and music and bowling and staff always chat to me.

Brodie

I enjoy coming to Chelsea because it’s a beautiful place, and the garden is beautiful and loves talking to staff.
