At Scope, we believe everyone has the right to a safe, accessible, and well-designed home. For people with disability who need specialist housing solutions, Scope partners with reputable Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) providers to deliver accommodations services that meet the highest standards set by the NDIS and reflect our commitment to human rights, choice, and control.
How Scope delivers SDA
SDA is not the same as Supported Independent Living (SIL). While SDA refers to the home itself, SIL is the support provided to help people live independently. These are funded separately under the NDIS.
Scope vets our SDA provider organisations carefully and only partners with trusted, reputable landlords and developers who share our values and meet strict compliance requirements. This means that wherever Scope provides SIL services in a partner home, the same high standards apply, ensuring safety, quality, and dignity for clients.
SDA dwellings where Scope delivers services are:
- All new builds are compliant with SDA Design Standards and independently certified by accredited assessors
- Maintained in line with state legislation and tenancy laws
- Regularly reviewed to ensure they continue to meet the needs of our clients.
Continuous Review and Improvement
We regularly conduct comprehensive reviews of all homes where we provide SIL services to ensure they continue to meet SDA standards and the needs of our clients.
These reviews are not one-off. They are part of Scope’s regular and ongoing approach to delivering quality services. Where a property does not meet requirements, we always try to improve the home first, working with landlords or Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) providers to see if we can make the changes the home needs. But if those changes aren’t possible, we may decide to stop providing SIL services in that home.
This decision is something we consider only when we genuinely believe it is the best option for the people living there.
In these situations, Scope always works alongside residents, families, and support teams to ensure a safe and supported transition to alternative housing. Read more about our ongoing accommodation improvement program.
By combining strong policies and procedures with active oversight, we make sure our support is delivered in fit-for-purpose homes that meet all relevant standards and client needs. This also helps us minimise risks associated with unsuitable landlords or property developers, protecting clients and their rights at every stage.
Safeguards and Responsibilities
When someone lives in a SDA home supported by Scope, they have a clear tenancy agreement that outlines rights and responsibilities. We ensure these agreements are written in accessible formats and reflect the legal protections of tenants in each state.
Scope is also committed to:
- Maintaining homes to a high standard,
- Making reasonable adjustments where possible when needs change,
- Supporting people to raise concerns through advocates, support coordinators, or complaints channels, and
- Ensuring SDA funds are used only for housing-related purposes.

All new SDA homes where Scope provides services are designed with accessibility, safety, and inclusion at their core. Homes meet one or more of the NDIS SDA design categories:
This ensures housing is fit for purpose, and that people with disability can live with dignity, safety, and independence.
