Scope reopens Pakenham Social Connections with community at its heart Skip to main content

Scope has proudly reopened its newly renovated Social Connections site at Henry Street, Pakenham, unveiling a modern, inclusive space designed to support people with disability in building skills, friendships, and community connections.

The grand opening event on 28 August brought together clients, families, local leaders, and community partners to celebrate the transformation. Special guests included Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Jack Kowarzik, Scope CEO Kate MacRae, and General Manager of Social Connections, Amanda Handley.

The upgraded facility now features adult-focused spaces that promote accessibility, dignity, and learning. Enhancements include a new kitchen, flexible program rooms, sensory spaces with a ceiling hoist, and dedicated areas for socialising and skill development — all aligned with Scope’s new Social Connections design guide.

“This isn’t just a renovation — it’s a reflection of our commitment to creating spaces where people can thrive,” said Amanda Handley. “We’re proud to offer a centre that truly supports our clients’ goals and independence.”

While renovations were underway, programs continued in the community, strengthening relationships with local organisations such as Pakenham Library, Officer Community Hub, and Officer Specialist School. These partnerships enriched the client experience and underscored the importance of community collaboration.

The reopening is part of Scope’s broader strategy to uplift Social Connections services across Victoria and New South Wales, ensuring every individual has the opportunity to participate in their community and live a fulfilling life.

Scope’s Pakenham Social Connections offers a wide range of programs, including music therapy, sports, physical therapy, gardening, cooking, art, and more — all designed to empower individuals and foster meaningful connections.
