Hear from our participants

My name is David.
I have been going to Scope Aspendale for a very long time. I love all my activities, swimming in the hydro pool, bowling, balloon basketball and outings in the community. Staff and volunteers take me to all these places as  I wouldn’t be able to do all these things without them.
I use a walking frame as well as the wheelchair as I cannot walk a long way. I love BBQ’s, Johnny Cash and going to the pub for Fish & Chips.

David

My name is Kathleen. My younger brother David has been attending Scope Aspendale for years. He has Cerebral Palsy and requires assistance with all his needs. He loves going to his day centre at Aspendale.
All the staff, volunteers and taxi drivers are so helpful and caring with David. He is always extremely happy to go to the centre at Aspendale. The Social Connections program at Aspendale is excellent and David loves going out for the day, whether to a Shopping Centre or to visit places such as the MCG.
Everyone at Aspendale Scope is very friendly, kind and caring as well as having a great sense of humour, who provide outstanding support to all their clients.

Manisha Manisha

Manisha Manisha

My Name is Manisha Manisha. I have been working with Scope since 2017 as a disability support worker. I enjoy the variety of programs in which I work in at Aspendale. I especially enjoy the cooking program. I love seeing the participants choose recipes, shop for ingredients together, and take part in the preparation and cooking. Watching them enjoy the meals they’ve created brings me great joy. I find it very rewarding to see the progress and participants make over time. Outside of work I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends.

Karen Hayes

Karen Hayes

My name is Karen Hayes, and I am the coordinator of Aspendale Social Connections for 13 years, beginning my journey as a disability Support Worker when the service was formally known as Don Tatnell. Over the years, I progressed to Team Leader and, around three years ago, stepped up to my current role.
I find enjoyment seeing the happy, smiling faces of the participants and hearing that they’ve had a good day. I am passionate about supporting the participants to achieve their goals, develop new skills, and overcome challenges, while fostering an inclusive environment for both staff and participants. I am also enjoy stepping out of the office and to work directly with the participants and accompany them on outings, sharing in their experiences and enjoyment.
