What is the difference between SIL and SDA?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) refers to the support services you receive from staff to help with daily living activities, while Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) refers to the physical home or building you live in. SDA is the “bricks and mortar” designed for different accessibility needs, while SIL is the person‑to‑person support that helps you live in the home.
Most Scope properties require both SIL and SDA funding, while some properties require SIL funding only. In some cases, a high level of Core Supports may be accepted as an alternative to SIL funding, subject to individual circumstances and NDIA approval.
Am I eligible for SIL funding under the NDIS?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a form of NDIS support designed for participants who have high support needs and require substantial, ongoing assistance or supervision to ensure their safety and wellbeing at home.
Eligibility for SIL is determined by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), not Scope, and is assessed on an individual basis. The NDIA considers a range of evidence, including functional capacity assessments, allied health reports, and detailed information about daily support requirements, to determine whether SIL is reasonable and necessary.

Can I choose my own housemates in a Scope home?
Yes, we prioritise compatibility to ensure you live with people who share your interests and lifestyle. We facilitate meet-and-greets and "trial stays" where possible to ensure your new home is a positive social environment.
What daily activities can Scope staff assist me with?
Support may include personal care, meal preparation, household tasks and prompts for taking medication, aligned to your NDIS plan and goals. Community participation can also be supported when it forms part of a resident’s plan, for example, going for a coffee at a local café or taking a walk to nearby gardens.
How do I start the process of moving into a Scope SIL home?
